'Exporting the outer surface of volumes?

Greetings. I am having some difficulties when exporting my original STL files to any compatible file to be used in Autodesk's softwares (AutoCAD, Invertor, etc), as they found to be very heavy to be manipulated (although they are smoothly manipulated in MeshLab).

Since I have a lot of information from the original STL file (which is a volume from a CTScan), I reckon an alternative could be exporting just the outer surface, instead of the volume itself. Doing so, I believe that exporting the "shell" of the volume could provide a considerably lighter file to be manipulated in Autodesk's softwares.

Any advice would be really appreciated if there is a way to do so. Kind regards, Rodolfo Andrade
