'react-native Android Mapbox build problem

I am trying to configure for Android a react-native app which uses Mapbox and works perfectly in iOS. The react-native version is 0.66.2, the Android Studio version is 2020.3.1 and the gradle version is 6.9. The build crashes with the message:

Could not resolve com.mapbox.mapboxsdk:mapbox-android-accounts:0.7.0

I have looked at the post mentioned in the comment, and it does not resolve my problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

Additional info: The build error also contains the following:

Could not GET 'https://api.mapbox.com/downloads/v2/releases/maven/com/mapbox/mapboxsdk/mapbox-android-sdk/9.7.1/mapbox-android-sdk-9.7.1.pom'. Received status code 403 from server: Forbidden

This seems to indicate that there is something wrong with my access token. But the same access token works for iOS. Does this make sense?
